The Wife of the president, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has flagged off the distribution of 50,000 Note books to Public Primary Schools in Kogi State as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative of the Federal Government to ensure that Children in the State have access to quality Education.
The Wife of Kogi State Governor, Her Excellency, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo flagged off the exercise in Glass House, Government House, Lokoja on Thursday 13th of June, 2024.
Her Excellency, who thanked the Wife of the President for extending the free gesture to the state said the act has demonstrated her commitment to the wellbeing of people especially Children, saying that her visionary leadership and passion to ensuring quality Education would go along way in empowering the people.
The donation of the Note Books she said would reduce the financial burden on parents as some of the learning materials are beyond the reach of the less privileged people in the Society.
Hajia Sefinat who called on the children to take the advantage of the materials to focused on their studies enjoined the stakeholders involved in the distribution of the books to ensure that the books get the right people.
She called on the people to support the Government of Alhaji Usman Ododo to enable it delivered on its Mandate.
In his address, the State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, thanked the Wife of the President for the Renewed Hope Initiative which he said was intended to cover all areas of human capital development.
The State he said is grateful to the gesture as the state valued quality Education as the best palliative that can be given to the citizens.
According to him, palliative in Education is the most sustainable palliative as Education is the future of any society.
In his words, " in Kogi State we valued Education above every other vocation because if you are not Educated you can not make progress"
The Commissioner said since 2015 the State has taken Education to another level, noting that Government believed that Education is the only instrument that can drive poverty out of the Society.
He assured that the Note Books would be distributed to all the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
Hon. Wemi Jones reemphasize that Education in the State is Free and called on the school Heads to support the State Government in making sure that the State Free Education Policy is sustained, warning that no one should collect money from students for any Internal and External Examination as the state Government has fully paid for them.
He advised Principals and school Heads who have collected money from students in public schools in the name of any Examination to refund it.
Highpoint of the ceremony was the distribution of the Exercise Books by Her Excellency, the Wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo to some selected children drawn from different schools in Lokoja.
