The Kogi State
Government has inaugurated a high-powered Seven-Member -Steering Committee to facilitate the implementation of Multi- Sectoral Coordinating Structure for the Nigeria for Women Project.
Speaking during the inauguration of the Committee in her Office in Lokoja on Thursday, Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D, Secretary to the Government of Kogi State (SGS), said the "Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up" is a World Bank assisted Project in collaboration with the Federal and State Government to promote Women Affinity Groups and other platforms for women's economic empowerment and to enhance the economic opportunities of unbanked women."
According to the SGS, as a lover of women empowerment, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has long paid the counter-part funding to enable women in the state access the laudable opportunities presented by the project".
She charged the committee to be committed and diligent to the responsibility assigned to them, meet regularly as well as come up with the best workable plans for institutionalizing of the project in the State .
Mrs. Ayoade rolled out the names of the Committee Members to include:
Hajia Fatima Momoh, Commissioner for Women Affaits and Social Development - Chairman; Alhaji Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning -Member; Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza, Commissioner for Health- Member; Timothy Ojomah, Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security-Member
Others include: Muhammed Muktar Shuaibu, Commissioner for Commerce & Industry- Member; Eunice Abimbola Grace, representative of NGO- Member and
Dr. Esther Amladaǰi, State Project Cordinator-Secretary.
The SGS said the terms of reference for the Committe, among others, is to support the operationalization of Women Affinity Groups as platforms for delivery of developmental activities.
To also ensure that each sector/ ministry has cleanly identified its priority actions with respect to the State's commitment on women's economic empowerment and has an agreed action plan for implementing these actions.
Earlier in her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Momoh, informed the audience that the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP) is a strategic long-term partnership between the World Bank and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
She said the NFWP is a flagship project of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, supporting improved livelihood for Women by addressing barriers to women's prosperity.
She thanked the visionary leader of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for the prompt payment of counterpart funding and other administrative charges.
