The Kogi State Government on Thursday inaugurated the Steering Committee on the Framework for Responsible and Inclusive Land-Intensive Agricultural Investment (FRILIA), as part of its drive to promote sustainable and inclusive agriculture in the state.
FRILIA is designed to encourage land-intensive agricultural investments that are not only profitable for investors but also beneficial to local communities, ensuring environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State (SGS), Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D, emphasized Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to transforming Kogi into a major agricultural hub.
According to her, “With the inauguration of the FRILIA Steering Committee, Kogi State is positioned for an agricultural revolution that will translate into more jobs for our teeming youths and accelerate economic development."
She further noted that the successful implementation of FRILIA would ensure food security and promote a healthier, safer, and more economically stable society. She urged the committee to work diligently to bring the governor’s agricultural vision to life.
Membership of the Steering Committee includes:
1. Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security – Chairman
2. Commissioner for Commerce & Industry
3. Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Planning
4. Commissioner for Justice
5. Commissioner for Local Government & Chieftaincy Affairs
6. Commissioner for Environment
7. Commissioner for Women Affairs & Social Development
8. Director General, Bureau of Lands
9. Chairperson, Kogi State Investment Properties Agency
10. Chairman, Kogi State Town Planning Board
11. Chairman, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service
12. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security – Secretary
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah, explained that the committee will be responsible for the overall coordination, establishment, adoption, and implementation of FRILIA in the state.
He stated that the committee is expected to provide “strategic guidance, oversight, and support to facilitate the successful implementation of FRILIA in Kogi State.”
Hon. Ojomah expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his unwavering support and dedication to sustainable agricultural development.
