Wemi Jones Commends Dangote Cement PLC for the Award of Scholarship to Oworo Students.

Kogi State Commissioner for Education Honorable Wemi Jones has commended the Management of Dangote Cement Company, Obajana for the award of scholarship for fifty students of Oworo Land in higher institutions in Nigeria.

The Commissioner gave the commendation on Monday in a goodwill message at the maiden edition of the award ceremony in Obajana, Lokoja.

He noted that with the award the Dangote Cement Company has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the development of education and human capital in the State.

The Commissioner said the awards of scholarship to the indigene of Oworo Land in higher institutions across the country is a shining example of how corporate organizations can partner with the Government to transform communities.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary Mrs Omolayo Barikisu Onasare described Education as the powerful tool for Empowerment, saying that supporting young people in their academic journey is laying a solid foundation for the socioeconomic growth and sustainable development of the State and Nigeria.

According to the Commissioner, the action of Dangote Cement plc has underscored the importance of synergy between government, organizations and communities, saying that their collaboration will lead to a stronger, better and prosperous society.

He congratulated the beneficiaries of the award and advised that the award should be a motivation to pursue excellence with renewed vigour.

The State Government under the leadership of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo he said will ensure that a favourable environment is provided for them to thrive and harness their potentials.

He enjoined them to refrain from all social vices and become good ambassadors of their communities.

Speaking the Group Plants Director, Mr.Azad Nawabudin thanked the State and the Communities for providing a favorable environment for the business to thrive, saying that the award of scholarship is one of the corporate social responsibilities of the company to the host communities.

He advised the beneficiaries of the awards to maximize the opportunities being created to better their lives and contribute their quarters to the development of their communities and the state.

In his opening remarks, the Group General Manager Special Duties, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi said the event is not all about financial support but an investment in the future of the communities.

According to him, the scholarship symbolizes hope and the belief that every child regardless of background deserves a chance to pursue their dreams through education.

About 50 Students of 26 female and 24 male in various courses are the beneficiaries of the 2025/2026 scholarship award.
