Kogi State has taken a major leap in protecting its next generation as Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Tuesday launched an Integrated Measles-Rubella, Polio, HPV, and Routine Immunization Campaign across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and development partners, is designed to protect children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable diseases while strengthening primary healthcare delivery in every community.
At the flag-off held at the Old Market Primary Health Centre, Lokoja, Governor Ododo said the campaign reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of all Kogites.
“This campaign is not just about vaccines — it is a commitment to life, health, and the future of our state,” the chief servant declared, urging parents and caregivers to ensure that no child is left behind.
He emphasized that all vaccines are free, safe, and effective, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community influencers to support the campaign.
Governor Ododo also commended the dedication of health workers and the contributions of development partners in advancing public health across the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza praised the Governor’s leadership and highlighted the growing public confidence in Kogi’s healthcare system. He also acknowledged the roles of religious and traditional leaders in promoting immunization awareness.
The Executive Director of KSPHCDA, Dr. Mu’azu Musa Omeiza, announced that the campaign targets 1.9 million children aged 9 months to 14 years against measles and rubella, while also covering polio and the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) that causes cervical cancer.
He explained that the exercise, which runs from October 6th to 15th, 2025, is a coordinated and evidence-based effort to safeguard the state’s future generation.
A representative of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Alhaji Abdulrazaq Babatunde Ishola, commended Kogi State for its impressive immunization record and Governor Ododo’s commitment to public health. He further called for the recruitment of additional frontline and auxiliary health workers to sustain the momentum.
With this integrated campaign, Kogi State reinforces its position as a model for proactive and inclusive healthcare delivery — one that prioritizes prevention, protection, and the promise of a healthier future for all.
