Kogi Deputy Gov Receives Motorcycle Union Excos, Hails their Support for Present Administration

The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu, on Wednesday received in audience the State Executives of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) at his office in Lokoja.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Kogi State Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria, Comrade Abdullahi, expressed appreciation to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the ongoing infrastructural development across the state, particularly in the areas of road construction and prompt payment of workers’ salaries, efforts which, he said, have boosted economic activities and increased patronage for commercial motorcyclists.

Comrade Abdullahi disclosed that the Union currently has about 44,000 registered members across the state, adding that plans are in place to launch a new identification jacket for members and host a grand “Okada Day” celebration on December 9, 2025 in Lokoja.

According to him, the event will feature a 10,000-man road walk to declare their unanimous support for the current  administration.
He further assured the state government of the Union’s commitment to collaborate in strengthening security, noting that the new reflective jackets, coded and linked to a central database, will help to identify genuine members and weed out criminal elements who use motorcycles to perpetrate crimes.

In his response, The Deputy Governor  described the visit as “a welcome development and a strong testimony to the people’s confidence in Governor Ododo’s leadership.”

He noted the vital role of commercial motorcyclists in society, describing them as the “largest public relations officers” in Nigeria because of their daily interactions with citizens across all communities.

Comrade Joel Salifu commended the Union for their plan to organize the Okada Day and their intention to endorse Governor Ododo for a second term, assuring them that their message and requests would be personally conveyed to the Governor.

He reaffirmed that the present administration is a government of the grassroots, determined to ensure that every Kogite feels the impact of good governance.

“Before His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, completes his eight years in office, Kogi State will never remain the same,” the Deputy Governor declared. “Our government is focused on prosperity, security, and the welfare of the common man.”
Comrade Salifu stressed that the Ododo administration is committed to sustaining the gains in security, stressing that the state’s improved security architecture has yielded positive results in the ongoing war against criminal elements. He urged the Union to maintain their database system and continue to assist the government in identifying and flushing out bad eggs posing as Okada riders.
