The Kogi State Government on Monday hosted participants of the National Defence College (NDC) Course 34, who are in the state on a week-long study tour.
The participants, who arrived in Lokoja on Sunday, November 9, 2025, will engage in a detailed study of key sectors of the state’s economy until November 15, 2025.
The study tour, themed “Solid Minerals Development and National Security: Kogi State in Perspective,” focuses on exploring the nexus between natural resource management and national development.
As part of the activities for the second day of the visit, briefs were presented at the Banquet Hall of the Government House by the State Security Adviser, Cmdr. Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who spoke on Security in the Solid Minerals Development Sector in Kogi State.
Sectoral presentations were also made by the Commissioners for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo; Education, Hon. Wemi Jones; Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridaojo Monday Anyebe; Works, Engr. Mohammed Yusuf; Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah; Livestock Development, Dr. Olufemi Bolarin; and Transportation, Hon. Atuluku Victor Levi.
In addition, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Mohammed Bashir, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulsalam Hudu, presented a paper titled “Contending Issues and Challenges Confronting Solid Mineral Development in Kogi State and Their Implications for National Development and Security.
Engr. Bashir’s address, delivered by the Senior Adviser on Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Asiru Segun Abdulganiyu, highlighted Kogi State’s Solid Mineral Potentials and Their Role in National Development.
In his remarks, Cmdr. Jerry Omodara (Rtd) commended the participants for choosing Kogi State as their study location, noting that the collaboration would deepen understanding of how the state’s vast mineral resources can be harnessed for economic growth and security enhancement. He assured them of the state government’s continuous commitment to peace, investment, and sustainable development.
