The Permanent Secretary Kogi State Ministry of Education Mr. Alabi Albert Bamigbade has advocated Gender Equity in the Education for boys and girls.
In a keynote address delivered on Wednesday at the Speech and Prize - giving Day of De Best Hope College Oboroke Ihima Okehi LGA titled "Equity in Education"
Mr. Alabi stated that since education is the only instrument for transforming lives and reduces poverty every child regardless of gender must be given equal opportunity to learn, develop and achieve their potentials.
He stated that gender equity in education goes beyond merely enrolling boys and girls, adding that every Learner must be supported, encouraged to harness their abilities and aspirations.
Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo he said has continued to ensure that every Learner in the State irrespective of gender, religion and ethnic background has equal opportunity to learn to in a safe and conducive environment.
He noted that the government through the State Adolescent Girls Initiative for learning and empowerment (AGILE) has recorded many milestones in addressing gender issues in the state.
According to him, the disbursement of the grant of N534 million to support 13, 359 vulnerable Adolescent School Girls , the establishment of 65 alternative mass literacy education centers across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State, the ongoing comprehensive renovation and remodeling of 728 public primary and secondary schools have gone along way in boosting the retention and enrollment of students, cater for students drop out and create safe and learning environment for pupils especially female children.
Furthermore, the Kogi State drafted policy on gender in education and its Implementation 2026-2036 Guidelines will strengthen the state capacity to initiate and oversee the integration of gender concern in all facets of the educational life of learners, he stated.
He called on the school authorities and the teachers to treat all students fairly, encourage participation in all subjects and avoid the stereotype that suggests certain careers or professions exclusively belong to male or female gender.
The permanent secretary advised parents and guardians to invest equally in the education of their sons and daughters, saying that every child deserves quality education as they have potential to contribute meaningfully to the society.
He encourage the students to respect one another, work together and celebrate each other's strength as success is not determined by gender but discipline, integrity, hardwork and willingness to learn.
He commended the Proprietor of De Best Hope College for his commitment to academic excellence and character development.
