Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended the Henry Adetayo Foundation for Investing in the future of the people of the Oke-Agi Community.
The Governor gave the commendation on Saturday at the Inauguration and handing-over ceremony of the Renovated/remodeled Local Government Secondary School, Oke-Agi in Mopa Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor who was represented by the State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones described the renovation/remodeled Secondary School as an investment not just into the future of the Students but Oke-Agi Community and the state at large.
He commended the Foundation for committing a huge amount of funds to the resuscitation of the school; saying that the action shows the commitment of the foundation towards improving the lives of the people.
The Governor noted that the Henry Adetayo Foundation intervention in education is in line with the State Government School Adoption and Mentorship Program which encouraged individuals and organizations to complement the State Government efforts in transforming the education sector ; adding that since the launch of the Program, the Henry Adetayo Foundation intervention is the biggest the State has received from individuals and private organizations.
He encouraged well to do individuals, private organizations and corporate bodies to buy into the School Adoption and Mentorship Program of the State Government to invest in the educational needs of the people as the government alone cannot fund education.
Governor Ododo announced that the State Government will immediately take over the burden of the salaries of the PTA teachers in the school from the Henry Adetayo Foundation and also assured that a parameter fencing will be constructed around the school to provide security and protect the facilities from being vandalized.
Other State Government interventions announced by the Governor include; the provision of 25 Computers and the provision of Digital Learning Materials to the school to enhance digital learning.
The intervention he said has already begun as the Government has installed a Solar Inverter to power the School.
He called on the people of Oke-Agi Community to take full ownership of the School and protect the facilities from being vandalized.
In her address, the Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Mrs. Christina Omowumi Araiyegbemi said the project is in fulfillment of the love the Late Henry Adetayo Araiyegbemi had for Education .
She stated that the Late Henry Adetayo Araiyegbemi is of the school of thought that giving a child education is an investment into the future.
According to her, every child deserves a good education and a conducive learning environment notwithstanding their circumstances of birth, ethnic or religion.
She called the School Management and the Community to take care of the School and keep it safe for the children yet unborn.
In their goodwill messages, the students representative, Miss Ojo Precious, the Principal of the School, Mr. Omoleyi Emmanuel and the Community Leader, Pastor Oloruntoba C appreciated the Henry Adetayo Foundation for the huge investment made in the education of the learners and promised to take care of the facilities for the good of the students and the generations to come.
