Ododo Visits Late Dekina APC Chairman’s Family, Demands End to Violence, Calls for Unity

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late APC Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Alhaji Yunusa Onu Ishaq, in Anyigba, urging the people to embrace peace, unity and responsible leadership.
Governor Ododo made the call during his visit to the bereaved family, the Eje of Dekina, Alhaji Dr. Usman Obaje, OON, and other traditional rulers and stakeholders in Anyigba.
The Governor described the late Yunusa Onu Ishaq as a peaceful, committed and selfless man who dedicated himself to serving humanity, his community and the All Progressives Congress.
He said the death of the former Dekina APC chairman was painful and shocking, stressing that the circumstances surrounding his death could only be judged by God Almighty.
Governor Ododo urged the people of Dekina, Kogi East and Kogi State to stop killing one another, warning that violence would not bring progress or solve the challenges confronting the people.
He appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to speak to their subjects, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters about the need to embrace peace and work together for the future of their children.
According to him, the continued killing of one another would leave future generations with difficult questions that they might not be able to answer.
The Governor also recalled the support and encouragement he received from the late Yunusa Onu Ishaq, describing him as a brother, friend and a man who believed in selfless service.
He said the late chairman had supported and promoted people without seeking public recognition, adding that his contributions to the political development of the community and the APC would not be forgotten.
Governor Ododo urged the people to support the family and preserve the good values for which the deceased was known.
He further appealed to the people to work with one another and avoid actions capable of deepening division, stressing that no political position or material benefit was worth the life of any human being.
The Governor prayed God Almighty to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him eternal rest and give his family, the people of Dekina and the APC the strength to bear the loss.
Earlier, the Eje of Dekina and Chairman of the Dekina Local Government Traditional Council, Alhaji Dr. Usman Obaje, OON, thanked Governor Ododo for personally visiting the family despite having earlier sent the Deputy Governor to commiserate with them.
The traditional ruler described the Governor’s visit as a demonstration of love and concern for the people of Dekina, noting that the people appreciated his support for bereaved families.
He also commended the Governor for appointing capable sons of the area into government and for supporting the people through his administration’s programmes.
The Eje of Dekina urged the people to remember the late Yunusa Onu Ishaq through their good deeds, stressing that death was inevitable but the manner in which people lived would determine how they would be remembered.
He prayed for the safe return of the Governor and asked Almighty God to continue to guide and protect him.
The Chairman of Dekina Local Government Area, Hon. John Urah, on behalf of the people of the local government, appreciated Governor Ododo for identifying with the family and the people of Dekina.
Hon. Urah said the Governor’s decision to personally visit the bereaved family, after sending the Deputy Governor earlier, had greatly honoured the people and demonstrated his commitment to their welfare.
He also commended the Zonal Chairman of the APC in Kogi East, Hon. Ogwu Alhassan Abdullahi; the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Rabiatu Okwute; the Auditor General of Kogi State, Alhaji Yakubu Okala, FCA; Dr Abdurahaman Hassan Ocholi member TETFund Board of Trustees North Central and other government officials for their support.
The Governor also visited the bereaved home of another loyal party member, late Ahmed Ibrahim Abdullahi who died after a brief illnesses to condole with them.
The children of the late APC Chairman named Onu Yunusa thanked Governor Ododo and his entourage for the condolence visit.
