The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojomah has paid an Advocacy visit to the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, HRM Alhaji Ahmed Tijani in his Palace at Okene.
He intimated the Royal Majesty of government's readiness to engage all farmers in the state in the ongoing Agricultural Intervention.
While appreciating the "Saaki" for his vast knowledge in Agriculture as a major occupation of the state and praying for a long reign on the throne, the Hon Commissioner said that the reason for this timely intervention is to ensure food security in the state as His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo who is an Agric friendly governor and also a practical farmer has reiterated that" we must eat what we produce and produce what we eat".
Hon. Ojomah announced that the pilot scheme would begin with 7,324 farmers across the state which would be empowered with improved seedlings, chemicals and fertilizer to ensure bumper harvest for the year, stressing that extension services will also be provided for farmers.
The commissioner solicited for the support and advice of the monarch on best practices for farming, while assuring the farmers of government support on all Agricultural Programs.
The Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, in his response welcomed the Hon. Commissioner and his entourage to the palace while thanking His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for this laudable initiative.
The Ohinoyi who is also a seasoned farmer stated that he ensures that his over 400 staff must own a farm each to ensure that they produce what they eat.
HRM pledged to provide security, enabling environment and sensitize the people on the need to take this initiative seriously.
The AFAN Chairman Alhaji Salihu Adobanyi also corroborated the Hon. Commissioner and pledged to mobilize farmers in the locality.
Also present at the meeting were the Acting Permanent Secretary, Directors and Farmers' Association from the central.
