The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Barr Salami Momodu Ozigi Deedat has urged the two sides involved in the tussle for the Obadofin stool in Kabba, Kabbabunu Local Government Area of the State to embrace a peaceful resolution.
The Commissioner made the appeal during a meeting with stakeholders from Kabbabunu Local Government Area and other government functionaries addressed the crisis arising from the disagreement in the choice of the Obadofin of Oweland between Chief Olusegun Joseph Are and Chief Julius Arokoyo, both of the Odolu ruling house.
At the end of the presentations of the Obajemu of Oweland, Oba Michael Ibinaiye and a community leader, Chief Funsho Olorunfemi representing the two sides involved, Barr Ozigi revealed that the selection process has been suspended indefinitely and will not be revisited until both factions have embraced peace and tranquility.
He regretted the unfortunate incident of the June 2024 split Oka festival and instructed that Kabba Day 2024 will not hold until the chieftaincy tussle is put to rest.
According to him, the State Government does not want a reoccurrence of the 2024 Oka festival saga.
He advised both sides to avoid a situation where people protest by rioting and burning houses, warning that any party that initiates any form of media attack or issues inflammatory statements will be severely dealt with, adding that the Governor Ododo led administration does not handle chieftaincy issues politically.
Also speaking, the State Security Adviser, Cdr Jerry Omodara advised the contenders to avoid the kind of chaos that visited chieftaincy tussles in kabba in times past while the Commissioner for Education, Hon Wemi Jones implored all parties to recognize their place in building a sound and sane society for peaceful coexistence.
