Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon. Wemi Jones has warned teachers that take advantage of the system to mess up to good intention of the Government in the provision of free Education to Students in Public Primary and Secondary Schools to desist as the State Government will take stiff action against anyone found sabotaging the Policy.
The Commissioner made this known during the visit of the National Parent - Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Kogi State Chapter to his office in Lokoja.
He stated that the State Government is mindful of the activities of some principals and teachers sabotaging the Free Education Policy of the State, saying that anyone caught will face the full wrought of the Law
He employed the Association to synergies with teachers towards ensuring that Government policies in Education are implemented for the benefit of the pupils.
According to him, "the State Government is mindful of the facts that the only lasting palliative that is everlasting is Education", saying that investing in education is the legacy that the Government of Alhaji. Usman Ahmed Ododo will bequeath to the people of the State.
He emphasized that the Free Examination Registration Fees for Kogi State Students and Pupils in Public Primary and Secondary Schools Law has made it Mandatory for Government to pay Common Entrance and Basic Six, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), SSCE(WAEC), NECO, NAPTEB, MOCk and JAMB Examinations for all students in public Schools in the State .
The Commissioner said the State Government has not pictured private school into the policy because of lack of as accurate data of private schools, noting that when the State has enough information on private schools they will benefit from the Policy.
He encouraged the Association to feed the Government with credible information that will enable it plan well for the educational development of the State.
In his address, the State Chairman National Parent - Teachers Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Hon. John Omeiza Abenege (JP) commended the Commissioner for his unwavering Commitment and hard work to the upliftment of education, saying that his efforts and kindness have promoted academic excellence, which includes the State Free Education.
He assured the support of the Association to the effective implementation of all State Government Policy in Education, promising that the Association will diligently carry out any assignment assigned to them by the Government.
