Kogi Community Watch Uncovers Motorcycle Theft Syndicate in Igalamela And Ofu LGA
The men of the Kogi State Community Watch and Ancillary Matters, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have uncovered an alleged motorcycle-theft syndicate operating within Igalamela/Odolu and Ofu Local Government Areas following an intensive search and investigation.
In a statement according to Omika Idakwoni, Cases of missing motorcycles across the two local government have been on the rise, with many owners reporting about eighteen missing cases to security agencies and local vigilante groups in the area.
On Friday, the Kogi Community Watch, led by its Director General, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, intensified efforts to secure communities against criminal activities. Their investigation led to the arrest of two suspected kingpins in Umomi and Urah-Agada communities, along with their alleged buyers. The suspects have been identified as Yekin Ibrahim Haruna Umomi and Oyibo Abdul of Urah-Agada, while the buyers are identified as Ameh Alih, Aminu Isah, Danladi Odili, Lahadi Ibrahim and Monday Moses.
Preliminary findings reveal that the suspects allegedly carry out the thefts in the farm, taking advantage of moments when owners pack and leave their motorcycles unattended while working on their farms.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to stealing a total of seven motorcycles.
According to the Director General of the Kogi Community Watch, Hon. Muhammed Nasiru Alfa, the agency has received about eighteen reports of stolen motorcycles just this year. He noted that this prompted the team to launch a sustained and thorough investigation, which eventually led to uncovering and apprehending the alleged perpetrators.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kogi Community Watch to work tirelessly with relevant security agencies to rid the area of criminal elements. He added that the suspects will be handed over to the police for further investigation and appropriate action.
