Kogi State Commissioner for Education Hon Wemi Jones has dispelled rumors circulating in the media cycle that the construction of the 38 kilometers Kabba-Olle-Iluke-Bunu Road is a World Bank Project.

Addressing news men in Lokoja on Monday, the Commissioner said the construction of the road is financed entirely by the Kogi State Government and not the World Bank as being rumoured by mischief makers.

He stated that World Bank interventions are between the Federal Government and the Bank and are executed through grants or loans with counterpart funding by the beneficiary states and wondered how some mischief makers are attributing the construction of the road to the World Bank or being influenced by an individual outside the State.

According to him " It is unfortunate that in recent weeks some mischief makers, out of ignorance or deliberate intent have sought to twist facts and mislead the public. First, they claimed the road is a World Bank Project, but following the State Government advertisement, they have changed their narrative from claim that it was influenced by an individual outside the State to a hurried advertisement by the State Government because the same individual outside the State was planning to have the World Bank construct the roads"

The Commissioner further explained that the World Bank does not deal with individuals, saying that the advertisement of the construction of Kabba-Olle-Iluke-Bunu road was issued by the Kogi State Government, through the Ministry of Works under an open competitive bidding process.

Hon. Wemi expressed the appreciation of Kabba/Bunu people to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to the development of the Local Government Area and pledged the total support of the people to the visions and political ambition of the Governor beyond 2027.

He said that the construction of the road came after years of agitation by the people and advised those behind the malicious misrepresentation to commend the State Government for the construction of the road and stop playing politics with the welfare of the people.

In his words " for the benefit of those seeking to rewrite history, the process leading to the construction of the road started 12 months ago. Upon receiving the cry of the people, the State Government directed a comprehensive survey and engineering design of the road, after the technical assessment and professional recommendation, the State Government decided to go for the total reconstruction of the road to bring a lasting relief to the people."

He stated that Kabba-Olle-Iluke-Bunu Road was among the three roads the State Government on 6th of September, 2026 published an advertisement in National Dailies inviting eligible and qualified contractors to bid for the construction and rehabilitation of the roads through competitive bidding process. The other roads are; Idah - Onyedega road in Ibaji LGA and Odenyi - Oguma - Sheria road in Bassa LGA.
